BOYFRIEND BOOKMARK RATING:★★★★
The Marchioness of Wick is about to get a second chance at life…whether she wants it or not. After twenty years in a loveless marriage to a duplicitous British aristocrat, Claire Heyworth Barnes finds herself broke and alone. Encouraged by her dynamic American sisters-in-law, the shy royal decides to start over in New York City. When she lands a job with a famous interior designer, Claire accidentally reconnects with the first—and only—man she ever loved.
Benjamin Hayek has never forgiven Claire for the heartless way she left him when they were teenagers in the south of France. And even if he could, Claire’s not sure she has the courage to contend with how he makes her feel. Can they build a new love from an old flame? Or will a bitter history and a complicated future stand in their way?
Claire is learning to live again. I don’t just mean because her heart was broken… I mean because her entire life she was told to live one way and be one thing, but there was always so much more to her. She was trapped in a life she never wanted but grew to appreciate. But when that life came crashing down around her, she found herself single again and nearly broke. She could no longer live the life of luxury that she was accustomed to.
Determined to make her life better she takes a few chances. Living in New York now, she is surrounded by friends and loved ones but there is always one person that is not in her life that she can’t stop thinking about. A quick summer fling from 20 years earlier. She had no choice but to end the fling. Her mother had already contractually arranged her marriage… But there was always something about Ben that she never got over.
While in New York, Claire decides that she just needs to be Claire and not the royalty that she was raised to be or married into. That means she had to get a job… but her first real job provides her the opportunity of a lifetime. Because of the job she is thrown right into the line of sight of Ben. Yes, that Ben… now divorced and trying to move on with his life…
Sparks fly quick between these two and they discover they have 20 years to make up for. But will family issues be the downfall for their relationship as it was all those years ago?
This is a great read and really passionate. I adored the characters, although I was quite confused with who was what from where, I really enjoyed the tale being told. It reminded me of the power of that first love and the promise of a future. I really fell in love with the writing and the story. It was charming and witty and a great read!
