BOYFRIEND BOOKMARK RATING: ★★★★★
Laney Walker is a quick witted, athletic, southern tomboy who lets few get too close, using her sarcastic zingers to deflect. She also has no idea how others view her, Evan having protected and coveted her since they were children. But college puts a gap between Laney and Evan that neither of them were prepared for- old relationships are tested, new ones are formed and nothing will ever be the same.
Especially when in walks one Dane Kendrick, not at all the familiar, southern charmer of home, but an animal all his own.
More than, and not just, a love triangle; a story of growing up, friendship, loyalty, first love, primal love…and life.
WOW! There is so so many things I want to love on in this book, but more than anything, I think it is my love of Laney’s character. She is a character with so much spunk and sass, but at the same time she is not ready to do it all by herself.
Laney and Evan have been friends, well, since forever. But something happened between these two their senior year of high school and things between them would never be the same. Big problem for them both though, is that they had never spent any time apart from eachother and as graduation looms and their futures begin, Laney and Evan have to face the facts. They would be going to two different colleges. This was not part of the plan. But Laney faced this head on and with all determination in her, she knew that she couldn’t force Evan into a misearable college experience by keeping him bound to her while she was a long drive away. She forces herself to let her best friend go to college but, with that, she also has to face her college days alone.
But one great roommate and a great pool of potential friends and Laney’s life is starting to work out. What Laney didn’t bargain on was Dane. Dane, the brother of her roommates boyfriend. But the sparks fly between these two and an attraction that cannot be denied causes Laney to struggle through what her mind tells her is right and what her heart is aiming for.
But what will Laney do? She would rather die than hurt Evan. They have been friends forever… she couldn’t do that. And Dane? She wasn’t ready to lose him either. But when push comes to shove, she has to make a decision.
This book was gripping and caused me tremendous anxiety. I started being all team Evan, but Dane just grew on me. I knew that he would take care of Laney no matter what. It wasn’t that I thought Evan wouldn’t take care of her, I just felt as if his character was too good to be true. He didn’t seem to have any flaws, but maybe it was because I though that the friendship was too strong… Dane was a mystery in the beginning and Laney really had to pry to get information out of him. But in the end it is still Laney’s decision, not mine. I think the choice that Laney has to make between the two of them would be difficult but someone was going to get hurt. That’s not what Laney wanted for either of these guys. So who did she choose? Did she choose an everlasting friendship or the man that makes her body crazy? Did she choose safe and stable or did she choose to live on the edge a little?
This book was such a great read, once I started, I could not put it down. I wanted to know what was going to happen. I wanted to know who the mystery “stalker” was, I wanted to know who she would choose and I wanted to know what was up with her “best” girl friend from high school. It kept me captivated from beginning to end.
I absolutely loved this book. It was well written and a great learning how to live kind of book. I highly recommend it!
BOYFRIEND BOOKMARK RATING: ★★★★★
Evan Allen is a handsome, athletic, southern gentleman who now attends Georgia Southern University for no good reason.
After what he expected to be the romantic gesture of the century, Evan is looking at no friends, a year of ineligibility on the football team, and no girl.
He’s starting over alone and doesn’t know quite how to proceed. Certain members of The Crew refuse to let him face things by himself, taking him under their wing, and it doesn’t take the ladies long to notice him, either.
Sometimes life doesn’t go as you had planned. Sometimes it goes better.
Embrace, the second book in the Evolve Series by S.E. Hall, follows the characters from her debut New Adult romance, Emerge.
Please be advised: If you did not read Emerge, book 1 in the Evolve Series, this review may contain spoilers for you.
Embrace knocked my socks off! I loved Emerge so much and I couldn’t wait for book two in the series to come out and now that I have read it, I still want more. This book is full of such a dynamic group all with varying personalities and attitudes, but in the end they each have one important thing in common, they have each other’s backs, and I love it!
Laney and Evan grew up the best of friends and had just begun to dabble in the relationship side of things, but when they went off to college something happened. Laney met Dane. Everything changed. And in a big way when Evan showed up at the end of Emerge with his letter of transfer, knowing that Laney and him were finally going to be together. But Laney ultimately followed her heart and stayed with Dane.
Evan, heartbroken and feeling lost, has to now figure out how to live again. Can he accept Laney’s apology? Can he move beyond the hurt inside? Can they salvage a friendship with Laney and what happens when Whitley enters the picture again, but this time looking at Evan and not Dane?
It was no secret that Whitley was not a favorite of Laney in the first book, but reality was that she was just so misunderstood. It seems the only person that could see this was Evan. Evan and Whitley formed a tight bond almost instantly. They became fast friends and Evan loved spending time with her, but he knew he would never change her from a friend into a relationship, EVER. Nothing good ever becomes of that… his only evidence of this was how things ended between him and Laney.
Meanwhile, Laney discovered that she didn’t really have a stalker all those years and in fact her mother was only a couple of hours away. But can she find the courage to mail the letter she wrote to her or could she be even braver and go and visit?
We spend some time in Dane’s past as well. Things he knows he has to deal with but is too afraid for Laney to find out about. If she finds out, she will certainly leave him. But what happens is anything but what you would expect.
I still have not gotten my fill of these characters. I still love Laney and I still think her sass is awesome, but I have this new found appreciation for Whitley. The one scene where she goes all out just threw me over the edge. I could see standing there and I am sure the look on my face would have matched that of her friends. Priceless! Evan grew on me again in this book and I realized that yup, I was team Dane, but I was also team Evan! I loved them both and by the end of this book, I wanted to climb in and hang out in the mud with all of them.
I wanted to play on the farm with the piggies and I wanted to hang out and laugh with this group. They are my favorite fictional friends and I cannot seem to get enough of them. S.E. Hall did such an amazing job with Emerge and outdid herself with Embrace. I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next!
BOYFRIEND BOOKMARK RATING: ★★★★★
Things heat up, and not just the Georgia summertime, when Dane and Laney go head to head over plans for her new duplex. But Laney’s got his number, and knows just how to coerce her bossy, domineering man. Spend the summer with the gang and find out…just how many is a crowd?
The members of the Evolve Crew are getting older; so is the content. Mature audiences recommended.
Optimal reading order: Emerge, Embrace, Entangled.
As if I could possibly love Dane anymore than I already did, S.E. Hall throws Entagled my way and wow… it is amazing!
Laney is getting ready to move into her own place thanks to Dane but of course that come at a price. Dane wants a say in how it is decorated and what is done with the house. This turns into a cute little battle of wills. These two couldn’t make decorating more of a hot thing to do if they tried.
I love this group of friend and I love Dane and Laney so much. She is just so spunky and full of wit. But Dane knows just how to handle it and it makes them both that much more amazing.
S.E. Hall just makes these books not onlhy endearing but smoking hot at the same time. I love them so much and cannot get enough of these characters. I just want to climb into these books and hang out with these friends, they truly are just a fun group of people. Yes, they have drama and no, they are not perfect, but the bond they share is just something amazing! Each book is a new adventure and I just continuously want more and more!
