Review: Cage (Corps Security #2) by Harper Sloan

*Warning: This book is intended for a mature reading*

Greg Cage was born to protect. While growing up, he was his mother and sister’s shield against the world… until he failed. For the last decade, he has carried that guilt and need for vengeance around… until it was stripped from him. Now, with his best friend getting married and no longer needing his protection, he is even more lost, completely adrift, and desperate for some control. All he has ever known was how to protect: his family, his friends, and his country. Can he go against everything he has ever known, and give up that control? Melissa Larson will never let anyone hold the reins in her life. She has been the rock in her family for more years than she can remember, and the fight to keep them together is her main priority right now. She has always been fiercely independent and proud. The last thing she will ever do is ask for someone else’s help. But when that choice is out of her control, forcing her to rely on others to save her and her family, and pick up the pieces that are left, will she be able to let someone else be her strength? The second Greg locks eyes with Meli, he knows that she is someone he needs. Someone he craves. Meli knew the second she met Greg that he would be nothing but trouble and heartache. Her life takes an unexpected turn, and that bitch Fate is back to wreak more havoc on another member of the Corps family. All hell breaks loose, leaving Greg no choice but to call in a favor. He hooks back up with his old friend Braxxon Breaker from the Breakneck MC. Together, they make sure that nothing threatens anyone Greg loves again.

I can now confirm without a doubt that I have been living under a rock not having read this series before now, a big rock!

Greg Gage is just amazing! He has spent his entire life protecting. He grew up protecting his mom and sister from the world, but when he joined the Marines, he couldn’t protect them. He has always carried that guilt with them after his sister was killed while was away. But that is why he was so determined to protect Isabelle from her ex-husband. But when Iz is safe and no longer in need of protection, Greg feels like something is missing in his life. He wants what Iz and Axel have. But that is not the life he has chosen to live. He lives to protect those he cares about.

A chance meeting at a doctor’s office and something changes in Melissa. She knows that Uncle Greg Gage is there for his nephew but after he leaves she can’t shake him from her system. When the two of them meet again in a bar, there is an undeniable chemistry between the two of them and Greg knows that he would never get enough of her. But the two of them share more than chemistry. They share a common story, a common loss. But it is that connection that may be the one reason they will not work.

I think I loved the little cat and mouse game these two characters played in the beginning, but it was very evident and undeniable that they were meant to be together. And when they were, sparks flew! Boy did they fly! But it wasn’t all sunshine and roses for either of them. Greg was keeping a secret from Melissa and he didn’t know how to tell her. The guilt of that alone would have been horrible, but the secret itself was life changing. Then you throw in the crazy stalker Mandy and all bets are off. That woman was going to stop at nothing to get Greg back away from Melissa.

This book was a never ending saga with tremendously hot heat. The sparks flew, the heat rose and I love the way it ended, wieners and all! This book was amazing! It has the angst and the drama and the sadness and the happiness and the hope… but it also had the one thing I count on… it had love.

This group of characters is by far one of my favorite sets. I can’t get enough of the Marines and their women! GAH! I am so anxious to read Beck at this point! I want more of them all! The one good thing about waiting so long to tackle these men is that I have the next book at my disposal right now. Thank goodness for that! I adore this series and I will be so sad when it has concluded.
