Lex Keagan isn’t your typical woman. Her past has left her broken and afraid, yet she remains bold and successful. As a result of her painful past, love has never come easy; therefore, she’s convinced herself to spend her entire adult life staying busy working at her own company–that is, until her best friend Roni persuades her to give online dating a try. When she concedes, Lex quickly discovers that the world of online dating is nothing like she’s ever dreamed. The mysterious charm of her online crush leaves her reluctant and afraid to let love in. As two more men enter her life outside of the online dating world, she’s left confused and overwhelmed. Who will she chose? With the deep scars and raw truths her past contains, is anyone capable of accepting the real woman trapped inside, or will she remain alone forever?
Note: This is a story of finding oneself, through the horrors and pains of life. This isn’t just a story about love. It’s a story about anguish. This is a story about Lex’s journey to acceptance.
Caution: This book contains heavy adult sexual context, which may include f/f and/or m/m scenes. Some heavy emotional scenarios, including ones of abuse, might be difficult to read. For ages 18+
This book is not going to be for everyone. I can guarantee that. But, I have to say, I was so engrossed in the story that when the big moment happens, I had to know what happened next. So I kept reading right through to the very end. This book has a major shock value within its pages and truly left me with my jaw hanging open. So when I say it is not for everybody. I really mean it. However, that in no way implies that it is not a great story. It caught my attention and kept me captivated and I really wanted a happily ever after.
Lex is a powerful business woman. She is the owner of a cosmetics company and is a very hard worker. She dresses like a million bucks and she bought her boobs, twice! One thing she doesn’t have is a man to share her life with. But given her past, she is quite ok with that. Besides, she has a very good employee that is there for her. She has deep emotional and physical scars and she may never get beyond the pain of her past to truly have a fabulous future, family or life. But she does the best that she can and with her best friend/neighbor by her side, she is willing to try new things… including online dating…
And that’s when she meets Suite Master… he is perfect. He appreciates the same books that she does and they coverse easily. But she has no idea what he looks like and for now that is just fine by her. But she is so intrigued by him all at the same time. They spend a lot of time exchanging emails and she knows she feels a really deep connection to him. But how is that possible if she is constantly thinking about that rude and arrogent lawyer, Gage? Now he is one fine speciman of a man. And he is looking her direction too.
Little secret about our friend Gage… he knows a lot more about Lex than he is leading on. The scars of her past are indirectly tied to him. No, he is not a bad guy and no he was never mean to Lex in the past (well except that one time when he had his lawyer face on in front of her–he was not very nice then). But he has a great heart and great intentions. Of course, we don’t find out what they are until later so I am not going to spoil that for you.
Somewhere around the half way point in this book, S.K. Logsdon reveals a HUGE secret that one of the characters is holding and then right after that another… Good gravy! Now when I say HUGE, you will have to read it to find out what it is.
I felt like Lex had enough scars from her past that it was all it would take to finish this book strong. But I tend to appreciate authors who take the road less traveled. I have found it makes all the difference (I will come back to my Robert Frost reference in a moment). The reason this book kept me on my toes is that there was so much more to Lex than just the past she lived. But finding her way out of the darkness and learning to believe in love again is truly a great strenth of this book. It was about acceptance and the daily battles fought to protect us and our loved ones from harm. Growth, strength and determination really push this book through to the end.
Now back to Robert Frost reference, another shining and defining moment in this book is the reminicence of English Literature. i loved that there were references to favorite authors scattered throughout the story. But it seems my favorite quotable author was omitted, so I decided to throw it in my review.
The story is unique and captivating and like I said, it is not going to be for everyone. Now in saying that, I am not encouraging you to avoid it, because ultimately I enjoyed it very much. But after the big WTF moment someone where around the half way point, the perspective of the characters change, but then again, the big secret is powerful. I actually read that chapter three times wondering if my eyes and brain were deceiving me. Good news, my vision has never been better and my brain processed it nicely.
S.K. Logsdon took a big risk with this book and I think it was worth it. I wasn’t the only part of the story, it was part of the characters lives. This is a powerful read with all of the struggles the characters have had to over come.
S.K. Logsdon is the author of three series; Stricken Rock, Attraction, and The Circle of Blood. She writes erotic romance novels, full of steam, unpredictability and sass.
A stay at home mom. She enjoys her family, loves cake decorating and is an avid reader.
“I became a writer after being a stay at home mom for the past 9 years.
I’ve always had a passion for reading and the creative nature for writing. Being an only child growing up, I spent hours living in my own world of imagination. Note books were filled with my thoughts and ideas and as an adult I have been lucky enough to turn those creative juices into a product for others to enjoy.”
