When the sun disappeared, the world was cast in shadows, hiding the evil that lay in wait. When it was dark, I hunted. The shadows caressed my body as I did things I could never do in the light of day. Eighteen-year-old Bree Bowen has spent her entire life training and working as one of her father’s assassins. Fear has kept her and her best friend, Wes, under her father’s thumb—until now. When Wes takes matters into his own hands, securing Bree a new identity and a plane ticket to America, he gives her the one chance she’s been desperately seeking. Learning to live a new life isn’t easy. Add in her new roommate, Reid, who just happens to be a stripper, and things start to get a little crazy. Falling for a man has never been part of her plan, but she can’t seem to stay away from Reid. When Bree’s past comes crashing back into her life, secrets that she’s fought to keep hidden are revealed, and she’s forced to choose between Reid and the life she could have with him, or Wes, the one man who has always loved her unconditionally. Regardless of her choice, she must learn the consequences of sin. This book will be a standalone.
When you open up The Consequence of Sin, be prepared. Hang on, hold your breath and pray for the lives of others. This book is intense, nerve-wrecking and touching all at once. It has everything in it. Murder, mystery, suspense and a whole lot of what the… Love. This book is emotion and thought provoking. It is an edge of the seat read and you just never know what is going to happen from page to page. It is anxiety driven and a fabulous story.
Bree grew up in a life she had no interest in. She didn’t want to be the person she was. She wanted to be her own person and able to make her own choices. But that was never going to happen under the controlling thumb of her father. To him, she was nothing more than a pawn in his twisted dark world. There relationship was not love. She was not daddy’s little girl. She was daddy’s to control. Nothing more. Thank goodness she always had Wes.
Wes has always been her best friend, her only friend. She grew up with Wes, they worked together in her dad’s crazy world. He was there to help her, to guide her and to love her. He vowed to her many years before that he was always going to be there for her. He was always going to be the one she leaned on when things got tough. But this is one time, being there just isn’t going to be enough. Bree’s dad has made a deal and this means that Bree will be moving on. She has served her purpose for her father.
Bree can’t stand the thought of going with them. She needs to escape the madness. Wes is going to help her. But a new beginning is not what Bree hand in mind and doing all by herself is more than she can handle. She needs her Wes. Wes swore to watch out for her, but this is something he just can’t do with her.
Bree is starting over in a new place. She has to find a new home, a job and a life where she doesn’t live in fear. Knowing in the back of her mind that if her father finds her, all bets are off and she will probably end up dead. Her first day in Dallas, she meets her roommate, Reid. She knows she can handle this. She now has a roommate, who is smoking hot and a stripper by the way… She has a job and she is starting to actually live for the first time.
But when a simple crush develops into so much more, Bree knows she is playing a dangerous game with her past. If her father ever finds her, she is not the only one at risk now. She has now made Reid a target too, even if it is unintentional, if her father finds her she is risking so much.
This book is a definite edge of the seat kind of read. I couldn’t put it down because I had to know what else was going to happen, I had to know whose arms Bree would end up in. I had to know if she would actually get a full shot at normal or if death was a more reliable option. This book had me so anxious and so on edge and ya know what? I loved every moment of it.
I loved the characters, I loved the crime, I loved the thrill of it all. I loved that Bree was one badass when she needed to be and so soft and gentle that you wouldn’t know what she was hiding. I loved the strength. I loved this book. If you are looking for something on the edge of romantic and crazy, this is the book! K.A. Robinson has an amazing book on her hands with this one.
