I was happy in my small town. In my life as a single thirty-two year old woman. I had a good job, wonderful friends, my independence.
I also hadn’t got laid in three years. Hadn’t been on a date in two. Had stopped counting calories and putting on makeup… a while ago.
Then Brett Jacobs waltzed in. Caressed my thigh, dug rough fingers into my hair, lowered his soft mouth to my skin, took sexual control of my mind and stirred it all around with what he packed in his pants. He dumped my quiet life upside down and crawled into a place in my heart I thought was dead.
The issue is his secret.
The issue is her.
The issue is that I don’t even know she exists, and he thinks she’s dead.
The issue is that everything is about to hit the fan and I can’t hold on to him tight enough.
I hate to admit it, but for a third of this book I was completely confused. There was a really sweet and romantic and sexy story being told between Riley and Brett. But there was this weird thing happening in random chapters by someone named Kitten. But then when I finally had that aha moment and all the pieces fell into place, I was able to see this novel for what it was. It is a crazy and twisted story with two separate storylines going on at the same time, one is the past and one is the present.
Brett and Riley met at a casino in Nassau and there was an instant attraction between the two of them, but when all was said and done that night, Riley let him walk away leaving nothing but a pair of fuzzy slippers behind. When Riley finally takes a chance and learns to live a little he is immediately there. It is almost as if fate has continued to push them together. Oh, there is chemistry and a lot of it! These two share some of the most passionate moments even before they really know each other.
They seem so perfect for one another, but one thing they do not have in common is location. She lives over 400 miles away from him. But that doesn’t seem to be an issue for Brett at all. I mean after all he is one very wealthy man. So chartering flights for Riley is nothing to him if he gets to spend time with her. Brett has a past, but he has finally found someone to help fill the void. She is everything he has wanted and unexpected in his life.
But being a part of Brett’s life may change everything for Riley. Never has she felt so completely consumed by a man and when she falls, it is hard. Brett, however, seems to have a secret side that Riley doesn’t know about yet. But when she finds out there may not be a chance for them after all. A chain of events will change everything for Riley and for Brett.
It is hard to discuss any more of the details in this book because I don’t want to give anything away, the journey to the “aha” moment is worth it. Now, though I did like this book in the end, it was a bit of a struggle for me at the beginning trying to figure out why there were two story lines going on at once. I also was a little disappointed in the ending. I felt like it was rushed and the aftermath of everything wasn’t really discussed. It is an assumed discussion or 50, I just wish we could have read a bit more of what happened instead of assuming it happened.
Overall, I enjoyed the story despite my initial confusion with it. I loved Brett and his never wavering humanity and love for Riley.
