The Fight for Us:

When Isaiah moves his teenage daughter Natalie to a new town, there is little doubt he’s running away from the past. But what should have been a fresh start for them ends up fraught with pain and heartache when Natalie becomes the victim of intense bullying at her new school.
When Joss is called to a meeting with the high school principal to discuss her daughter Harper’s involvement in the bullying of a new student, she’s shocked to say the least. Her daughter can’t possibly be that child.
It’s a rocky start for Joss and Isaiah as they try to set their daughters on the right path. But there is more to Joss’s and Isaiah’s connection than just two teenage girls. Joss’s and Isaiah’s attraction to one another is undeniable, regardless of their fractious start. But his soul is broken, and as much as he’s drawn to her, he’s equally terrified of what that means.
Is Isaiah strong enough to let her get close to him?
Life sometimes forces you to make those choices whether you’re ready to or not. And when Joss’s life is turned upside down, Isaiah has to decide if he’s ready to leave his past behind and live again, or if he’s going to watch what he’s come to care so much for slip away. Isaiah’s fight is profound. Joss’s is too. And their strength to withstand it all is brutally tested.
Sometimes the willingness to fight for another is all a person has left to give. And sometimes the fight is the most important gift of all.

Isaiah is my hero. In every sense of the word. His love and protection of his daughter is his number one priority. But when the world seems against them and their need to start over, he has to take it to the next level. He wants what’s best for his daughter and he will fight to ensure it happens. But life has a funny way of throwing curve balls in the face of tough circumstances.

When he comes face to face with the mom of one of his daughter’s bullies, everything is going to change. Though he has a hot temper and a strong need to protect, nothing can prepare him for moving forward with his life. Not only learning to live again for his daughter, but learning to live again for himself.

Joss has had enough drama in her life and now here she is squaring off with the new guy in town who only wants to protect his daughter, but at the expense of hers. Things are going to get ugly, patience tested and all bets are off when the sparks fly.

I loved the characters. The pain from their pasts is a lot to deal with but when both of them are ready to give it a shot, it makes their characters that much more incredible. With everything Joss had experienced and everything that Isaiah was too blind to see catches up with them on this little island, hopefully they will come out the victors.

I love the powerful messages in this story along with the characters. Bullying, domestic abuse, suicide… it is a lot for four people to take in but strength and love seem to have the best healing powers of all.

It is a truly amazing story and I am almost sad that I hadn’t read it before now. It is powerful and touching and sexy as hell! Definitely worth the read.

Cohen is a man apart on Bristol Island—an outcast loved by all but separated by his position within the community. Dylan is the newest resident in town, but she arrives with a dark secret and a desire to keep it buried.
But when burning attraction is thrown into the mix, his job and her secrets are quickly forgotten—that is until one impetuous decision renders a relationship off-limits, unethical, and utterly inappropriate.
Living next door to one another on the island’s isolated peninsula guarantees their paths will cross time and time again. With fate tempting Cohen to ignore his conscience and, for the first time in his life, gamble with the rules, will he risk everything for Dylan?
And what happens when Dylan’s past suddenly catches up to her? Will she find the strength to bare her soul to him? Or will she let her secrets take them both down?
Sometimes the inappropriate relationship is the most appropriate of them all.

Review

Oh boy… so the good doctor is so attracted to his neighbor and Joss really wants them together. One problem… he is the only doctor on the island and she is his neighbor…and his patient.
This book is so much more than forbidden love. Though it is unethical for him to go out with a patient, he can’t help but be attracted to her. But she has so many secrets as well. Her past is a tough one for her to deal with and now it seems they will have to face all of this at once.
This book is a rollercoaster of emotions. A big part of me said screw everyone if they can’t handle this, but at the same time I wanted to embrace and keep the characters safe. I wanted them together, but I knew what they both had to get through in order for that to happen. This book just did not let up from the very first page, the struggles and the need battled it out throughout the entire book.
Though I can’t say that I didn’t like it. I was definitely glued to my seat reading it. I couldn’t put it down. I cooked dinner, went to the restroom, walked around all while reading this book. It was too good to stop and it was gripping enough, I couldn’t find a place to do that.
Now, one downside to this book for me is that it is kind of a long book, so right when you know you should take a break that old “one more chapter” catches you and the next thing you know it is three in the morning and you are finished with the book.
So aside from ignoring my family, my home and my life, I loved every moment of this book. It was agonizing and heartbreaking and it was full of steam and want. It was the perfect combination and I cannot wait for more from this island!
