Eli Sabatino, determined to make a name for himself amid Seaside, New Jersey’s nightlife, has laid out the perfect plan for success. But that plan didn’t include Layla, the hopeful bartender who walked in for an interview. He knows, as an employee, this blonde bombshell is off-limits but he can’t fight the undeniable force of attraction that pulls him toward her. Layla Del Luca has the weight of the world on her shoulders. With a full course load, a boyfriend, a sister to take care of, and an alcoholic mother, she needs to regain control of her life. Her job at Fierce is priority number one. But a complication she didn’t expect looms behind the eyes of Eli, her handsome new boss. Emotions collide full force and they can no longer turn a blind eye to what their hearts are telling them. But, can their passion survive when Eli can no longer promise the one thing Layla asks of him? Will everything change? Will he stay?
I am not going to lie, this book just completely broke me. I fell in love with Eli but more than that, my heart broke for Layla and not just in the middle. My heart hurt for her from the very beginning.
Megan Smith not only captured my heart with Stay For Me, she broke it into a gazillion little pieces. The characters were powerful. Eli wanted nothing more than to comfort and care for Layla, even though she had a boyfriend, which he completely didn’t understand. From everyone’s perspective, there was no rhyme or reason to that relationship.
Layla was strong. She lost so much of her youth and she really didn’t have time to enjoy being young because she had so many other things to worry about. Would the bills get paid, would her sister have food to eat… it was heartbreaking knowing what she was living through at such a young age.
So when Eli took a chance and hired her, it was the best thing that could have happened. But fate is a fickle creature and the “boyfriend” a dangerous man. When Layla had no where else to go and no where to run to, she ran into the arms of the one person who wanted to give her everything. He wanted to watch over her, love her and care for her. He wanted to see her smile.
Eli was a top notch man throughout the entire book. Though he made a few questionable choices at one point in order to clear his head, he still only thought of one person and how to fix everything. He had a heart of gold and he was never going to be the person his father was when he had children, ever. It was this vow that pushed him to do his best for everyone in his life, especially Layla.
I think what I loved the most about this book was that Layla had to come to a big realization in her own life. It wasn’t going to change for her or her sister unless she made the change happen. She didn’t have a great childhood but she always did everything she could to make sure Fallon, her sister, was taken care of, despite the consequences. She was determined and she did what she had to do.
Yes, this book broke me, reduced me to tears, stole my heart and shattered it all over again, but there was something special about the writing and the characters I cannot get past. I was in love with them. I was in awe by them. They touched something deep down and I can without a doubt add this to a select list of books that I know will stay with me for a very long time. Well written, well told and despite the heartache I felt, well worth every emotion I felt!
