Successful, sophisticated, 36 year old, Chase Tanner is a Dom who has everything…except love. When he meets the woman of his dreams – a submissive beauty who’d rather be alone than with the wrong man – Chase knows convincing her that he’s the “right” one, won’t be easy. It’s the courtship of his life—and he’ll have to put his life on the line to protect her.
“You’re just not good enough, Kali.” Her ex-husband’s hurtful words echoed in Kali Benson’s memory as she moved to small-town Washington State to rebuild her life. It hasn’t been easy, but finally at 39, she’s happy, self-sufficient, and emotionally armored. But her strength and resolve are tested when a sweet-talking hunk, who drives an old Dodge truck and makes her feel nineteen again, comes to town.
This book was recommended to me by an author who has never disappointed me with his own work or recommending others work to me. So I said, I would gladly review this book. I knew very little about this book before diving in and sometimes in my world that is the best part of turning the first page.
Chase is a hard working man. He has made his business successful and has kept it on top in the industry. Though it is not nearly as conventional as most businesses, what it represents is who he is. But the man needs a vacation. The people he works closest with all know where the perfect vacation spot is for him and he has decided it is just what he needs. He needs to head to that small town that has always provided him with solace and comfort in the past. He needs to clear his head and this is the perfect place for that.
But the first day he is in town he sees her in the hardware store in those jeans. They may not have the label on them, but he knows everything they represent and he wants exactly that. But how exactly does he go about getting what he wants when she blows him off? He knows it can be done and he will go to any length to make it happen. But what he doesn’t know is that Kali isn’t fighting what she wants, she is fighting her past. That’s what is going to keep Chase at arms length…
Not so simple to do as Kali thought keeping Chase away is just not going to happen. He has to make her trust him, he has to make her see all the beauty he sees. He is determined to do just that and so much more. He knows she is perfect for him. She doesn’t think she could ever be enough.
Of course, Chase isn’t the only one looking at Kali and that is just going to lead to trouble. But how much and to what length will he go to protect her and show her that she is the only one for him?
The first thing that caught me about this book was how Chase made a living. That is not what I expected at all and though we don’t see a lot of the business side of him, we know that he has a lot of power and money at his disposal. I will say that I wanted more of his life before this vacation. I wanted to know more about him and though we learn a lot throughout the story, there is a lot that is left open. Perhaps to the authors advantage for future books but I felt like there was more of a mystery surrounding him and I wasn’t exactly sure why.
I liked the writing and it kept begging questions that would only be answered later in the book. So it was a great, keep you guessing kind of read. There was intrigue to keep me going throughout the entire book, a bit of mystery, a lot of suspense and a man that would do anything for a woman and the steam factor was high in this book, but not so over the top it bordered on unbelievable. It was the perfect amount of steam and story and drama.
I really enjoyed all of the little nuances of this book and have added author Marilyn Lakewood to my author watch list. Well written, hot and suspenseful, this book is worth the read!

About Marilyn Lakewood
Marilyn Lakewood started writing erotic romance “just for fun” several years ago. Today, she’ll laughingly admit she’s obsessed with creating hard-core dominant heroes and happily-ever-after endings.
Marilyn lives in the northwest U.S., not too far from the Canadian border where the long, cold winters are perfect writing weather. She writes erotic romance because it lets her explore love, passion, and sex, through the lens of different characters and settings. Besides reading and writing romances, she loves music, movies, and taking daily walks with Precious, her rescued dog.
Although she imagines traveling to romantic and faraway places, she’s a country girl at heart, and her favorite place is at home with her family.
