What fun is life without a little bit of trouble? Retired supermodel and forever wild child Olivia Sweet is nothing but trouble. The youngest Sweet triplet is back in her hometown, but instead of a triumphant return it’s a parade of humiliations. She’s broke, homeless and dealing with the fallout from her scumbag ex-boyfriend publishing naked pictures of her to a revenge porn website. Staid and stalwart veteran Mateo Garcia has seen more trouble than a man ever should in his lifetime. He’s gone from pretty boy Marine to a small town police chief with a chip on his shoulder and scars covering the left side of his face. Now his former lover, Olivia, is back in town and living next door. When the two are forced to work together to fix up the crumbling veterans’ center, the sparks fly between the beauty and the man who sees himself as a beast. Not everyone is happy that Olivia is back home though and Mateo has to choose between the town who wants her gone and an uncertain future with a woman who he thinks could never love him…
There is something about this Brewery, this Family and the incredible attraction between the hot girl who is nothing but trouble and the scarred military man who has become his own personal nightmare.
They used to meet up, have a great night and Mateo would go off four another tour of duty. But they needed that night. She was his lucky charm. But Olivia… Olivia wanted so much more. She wanted more than a quick hook up with no strings attached. Some things were just never meant to be.
So ten years later, when she returns to her hometown, she knows she isn’t going to be welcomed immediately. She left a trail behind her when she left town. But this is her change to start over and she gets to do it beside her sister. She has nothing. Her modeling career and subsequent career in advertising, are over. Her ex ran off with everything to fill his needs and his addictions and left her with very little to start over. But now she has a chance to change what others think about her and future generations of her family. Returning to Salvation is not an easy thing to do, but it is all she has left. What she doesn’t expect is to run right into Mateo the first night in town.
But there’s her car… in the mud… Mateo is the sheriff of this town and he knows he has to get this car out of the mud. What he isn’t too thrilled about is seeing Olivia. He left her heart in pieces and now… well, now the scars are his on the inside and out. He knows that he needs to stay away from his sister’s best friend. He knows he needs to continue on with his life as if Olivia weren’t around.
Of course, nothing is going to be that easy. His sister knows the only one that can break Mateo from his funk and the blocked off life he leads is Olivia. She was a handful back in school and after there was nothing more that he wanted than Olivia. But he was a soldier. He didn’t have time or energy to have a relationship. It wasn’t in the cards for him.
Now… now Olivia has her hands full. She is back in this town where she is not very welcome facing the man that shattered her heart… and she wants redemption from who she used to be. Oh… but if the mayor has anything to say about this, it is going to be one complicated mess.
This is a twisty and angsty story. You want to cheer for Olivia and you want to cheer for Mateo. You want to punch a person or two and curse at a few more. Somehow Salvation hasn’t changed much and forgiveness is not easily given. Olivia and her sisters know this… they paid the price for someone else and still haven’t earned forgiveness.
But finding a new start will never be so simple. When the one thing you want more than anything else wants nothing to do with you. Determination and attitude can change so much in a town and there is something about Salvation that just calls to me each time I find myself in one of Avery’s books.
This book is heat and passion and forgiveness and growth. It inspires something inside and finds the beauty beyond the pain. It grabs ahold and doesn’t let go. I love Avery Flynn’s writing so much. I didn’t want this book to end. So worth the read!
Avery Flynn has three slightly-wild children, loves a hockey-addicted husband and is desperately hoping someone invents the coffee IV drip.
She fell in love with romance while reading Johanna Lindsey’s Mallory books. It wasn’t long before Avery had read through all the romance offerings at her local library. Needing a romance fix, she turned to Harlequin’s four books a month home delivery service to ease the withdrawal symptoms. That worked for a short time, but it wasn’t long before the local book stores’ staffs knew her by name.
Avery was a reader before she was a writer and hopes to always be both. She loves to write about smartass alpha heroes who are as good with a quip as they are with their *ahem* other God-given talents. Her heroines are feisty, fierce and fantastic. Brainy and brave, these ladies know how to stand on their own two feet and knock the bad guys off theirs.
